Temptation at La Vierge Winery

A glimpse of Tuscany.  I admit, it was with reluctance that I made a reservation at La Vierge, I had another favourite eatery in mind, but, thankfully followed my best friend's advice and called for a luncheon reservation at La Vierge instead. This was my third visit, the last a wedding reception, which was fabulous, but I couldn't see them pulling off luncheons and dinners successfully, why I don't know! We arrived and I was surprised, the parking area was chock-a-block and this on a Monday in March? Of course the views are beautiful, vineyards, rolling hills, winding road, beautiful farmsteads etc, etc. Eccectic decor, tasteful and funcky... I like it. even the cloakrooms have a view! the wine list is excellent our choice was gorgeous, my mouth waters as I write this, and our fellow diners were as impressed, you could hear the wine talk before long! The luncheon menu is small but comprehensive, caters for all tastes, what I loved was the choice of either a starter portion or a full main course portion, I opted for two starters both were divine, perfectly grilled prawns, and my all time favourite caprice salad with a smooth buffalo mozzarella. This was a family affair and the rest enjoyed their rib eye steaks too. Desserts were great, I had the apple pie made using fresh apples, a real treat. We closed the place of course, the friendly staff got on with their chores and we ended a marvelous day with a couple of boules. So, don't hesitate, do make a reservation, it's well worth it, the drive into the valley is always lovely... remember on a good day you can see forever from there. I'll be back for sundowners, sipping bubbles under the stars and hopefully stay for supper, who knows I might see you there too!
