Our Majestic Mountains

Some people live their lives in a fishbowl. We live in a basin, a beautiful valley surrounded by majestic mountains.   No matter which window we look out of we can see a mountain, albeit it’s tip or the cloud covering.  When we travel to foreign places or upcountry the first thing I notice is the lack of a mountain.  When our children return it’s the mountain that brings back the memory of growing up in this place. We're enfolded by them.

Each peak peaks at a different time of the day, almost as if Nature and the Sun are in cahoots making sure that during each day each one shines individually prodding us to delight in them.

No matter which season it is but especially during the autumn and winter months these mountain ranges literally bloom.

At about 16H00 the sun sits perfectly to light up the De Wet and Nonna mountains.  I drove out that way and this is what I got.

I read somewhere, that a renowned photographer said something to the effect; that the sky is unimportant when doing landscape photography, the earth must shine.  Today I agree wholeheartedly.

“To the complaint, 'There are no people in these photographs,' I respond, there are always two people: the photographer and the viewer.” ― Ansel Adams

Often, when I lift up my eyes to the mountain I know where my help comes from and I'm blessed.
