Temptation at La Vierge Winery

A glimpse of Tuscany. I admit, it was with reluctance that I made a reservation at La Vierge. I had another much-loved eatery in mind, but thankfully, I followed my best friend's advice and made a luncheon reservation at La Vierge instead. This was my third visit, the last a wedding reception, which was fabulous, but I couldn't see them pulling off luncheons and dinners successfully, which I don't know why! We arrived, and I was surprised. The parking area was chock-a-block, and this was on a Monday in March? Of course, the views are beautiful, vineyards, rolling hills, winding roads, beautiful farmsteads, etc., etc. Eclectic decor, tasteful and funky... I like it. Even the cloakrooms have a view! The wine list is excellent, our choice was gorgeous, my mouth waters as I write this, and our fellow diners were as impressed; you could hear the wine talk before long!

The luncheon menu is small but comprehensive, catering to all tastes. What I loved was the choice between a starter portion and a full main course portion. I opted for two starters, both of which were divine: perfectly grilled prawns and my all-time favourite caprese salad with smooth buffalo mozzarella. This was a family affair, and the rest enjoyed their rib-eye steaks too. Desserts were great, I had the apple pie made using fresh apples, a real treat. We closed the place, of course, the friendly staff got on with their chores, and we ended a marvellous day with a couple of boules. So, don't hesitate, do make a reservation, it's well worth it, the drive into the valley is always lovely... remember, on a good day, you can see forever from there. I'll be back for sundowners, sipping bubbles under the stars, and hopefully stay for supper, who knows, I might see you there too!
