India By Car with a Driver - Private Day Tours

Posted in Review

Driving in a vehicle in India is  almost like taking your life into your own hands.  Oh Holy Cow it's hectic and indescribable unless you have a driver in his own car.

Our driver Rajesh picked us up at the train station in Udaipur with a bouquet of red roses and a sign welcoming us to India, but the huge smile on his perfectly groomed face was the clincher! From that moment we knew instinctively that we were in excellent hands and we were never proved wrong! Our car was a Toyota Innova, a trusty steed! Rajesh was at our service 24/7, a very accomplished and safe driver! He has a good command of the English language and communicated very well. His knowledge of India is good and his suggestions and tips were spot on! He is a soft spoken, quiet, gentle man and our comfort, safety and well being was his only priority. His punctuality and professionalism Is a testament of the man himself and his pride and commitment to his profession is remarkable! We thoroughally enjoyed every kilometer in his company, it's not often that one sees such passion!

As you can imagine we were a trifle anxious about our arrival at Udaipur station, here we had to meet our driver and car, the stations in India are notoriously busy and there are literally thousands of people milling about, we need not have feared, once we’d disembarked from our couch with our luggage, we were greeted by this gorgeous smile and a placard with “well come Butch Robertson” written on it, our driver was Rajesh Kumar Meena, in a Toyota car, an upgrade which we hadn’t bargained for! Oh and a bouquet of red roses for me!

We spent 14 days with Rajesh, he is an excellent driver, careful (as you can be in India) professional, had a good knowledge of our destinations, although he wasn’t a guide, he gave us good tips, recommendations and his suggestions for restaurants and eateries was excellent, he knew the routes we were to take and the condition of the roads, he was very good with his hooter too, we felt safe in his hands and I could easily relax and take my naps without being at all nervous! He was punctual and assured us that he was at our service 24/7 whilst we were in his capable hands. He is a deeply religious man and told us many facts about his faith, on only two occasions did he say “oh my god” and once “oh holy cow”! Most of his sentences started with “actually”. He made me smile and I really have to thank him as he made our journey light work. Only on our very last night did he agree to have dinner with us at his favourite restaurant in Agra, no fraternising with the client was his motto!
