Langebaan – Greece On The West Coast - Leentjiesklip

It’s hard to believe that we’ve only visited Langebaan on a few occasions, and the last time was decades ago with a friend who had a timeshare unit. With very little knowledge, Langebaan never featured on my bucket list. There’s no specific reason we always skipped it on our numerous west coast visits, and we probably thought it was too big and busy. We did remind ourselves that there’s always a reason why places are popular because it’s nice there, silly!

We hadn’t made any reservations and decided to go with the recommendation of Doesie, a local in the know, who recommended the Leentjiesklip campsite.

Forewarned is forearmed. According to reviews on iOverlander, the App we use for campsites, guests have complained of the unfriendly office staff. Butch marched into the office and put his best foot forward from the threshold. Friendly and accommodating is what he experienced. A little bit of sugar makes the medicine go down.

We were delighted with our campsite. Two rows from the front stand, with a view of the lagoonand our ablutions en suite.

For lunch, we decided to visit Club Mykonos where the spring break was in full swing with many holiday makers taking up time shares.

The Cape Town Fish Market restaurant, situated on the quay at the harbour, was perfect on a sunny day. I’ve never been to Greece, but you could’ve fooled me. For a while, we experienced that holiday feeling. Our starters were good, and Fishcakes, prawn Tacos to share, and my beer-battered fish and chips were gorgeous for mains. We sipped coffee for dessert while watching yachts, catamarans, and small fishing vessels come and go.

The restaurant was filling up by seven o’clock, and we had to see the sunset from our possie.

While in Leentjiesklip, we went for a long walk along the coast, snooped around the touristy shops near the beachfront and had a coffee and toast at one of the many beachfront coffee shops.

We found the shopping centre near the campsite and could have our laundry done. This experience was unique because we received a WhatsApp message when our bag was ready for collection. The Woolies food store catered for all our grocery needs before we moved on.

Langebaan was a delightful surprise, and now I know why it’s such a popular holiday destination. Just a short drive from Cape Town, it offers visitors plenty to do. There is a range of dining options and the most excellent beaches. Children can enjoy building sand castles on the beach and splashing about safely. For the more energetic, most, probably all, recreational water sports can be enjoyed.

We only spent two nights in Langebaan enjoying perfect champagne weather while waiting for our third and final Hepatitis A&B combo shot. We were instructed to report to the Sister at Clicks, who did the honours when all the paperwork was complete, and our order was delivered.

Thank you, Doesie, for the delicious lemons and limes, our drinks are extra tantalizing, and the Marmite will be hoarded until we feel homesick and need a little something to lift our spirits. Maybe one day we’ll return there. Right now, we need to move on ever northwards.

Langebaan certainly gets the thumbs up from us!
